Mark Twain said that the two most interesting characters of the nineteenth century are Napoleon and Helen Keller. The admiration with which the world has regarded Helen Keller is more than justified. She did not have the slightest perception of either light or sound, yet she successfully completed a Bachelor of Arts at Radcliffe College. This was just one of her many achievements. This book is in three parts. -The first is Helen Keller’s life story. It was written in 1903, when she was 22 years old.-The second contains extracts from her letters from the time she started learning to write at age 7, to when she was age 20. Reading her letters, one can see firsthand the progress of her education with Anne Sullivan. Included is her correspondence with Dr Alexander Graham Bell and Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes. -The third part was written by editor John Albert Macy (husband of Anne Sullivan). In it he: oExplains the process used by Keller to write her life story.oGives an exposition of Keller’s personality.oExtracts parts of Anne Sullivan's letters and reports to give an account of Keller’s education from her teacher’s perspective. Sullivan recounts the troubles she had when she first started to teach Keller, as well as Keller’s progress as a student. Sullivan also describes some of the unusual teaching methods she used. This is one of the most fascinating parts of this book. oGives a description of Keller’s speech and her literary style. By Helen Keller The Story of My Life The Story of My Life. By Helen Keller.
